"Brief stay at Uluru
" |
|
"This modern hotel is very convenient for sightseeing at Uluru and Kata
Tjuta (Olgas). Somewhat expensive for what it is but its worth it for
the location. Both Uluru and Kata Tjuta are visible from lookouts on the
site og the hotels.
"
The best thing about Desert Gardens Hotel was:"Vier os Uluru from the room patio

with resort centre only a few minutes walk away.

"Exploitative monopoly with all its faults
" |
|
"As at King's Canyon, Yulara is an exploitative monopoly, with everything
geared to the profit of the owning company. Advantage is taken of the
fact that most guest are there for only 1 to 2 nights and are likely to
'put up with it' for the privilege of the location. Displays all of the
disadvantages of monopoly (taking into account environment and remote
location):- lack of choice poor quality food, cooked indifferently low
quality accommodation, even in deluxe inexperienced and indifferent
service lack of product knowledge paucity of information predominance of
'work it out for yourself 'attitude.

"Nice hotel, with a lovely pool.

"We had a lovely stay at the Desert Gardens Hotel, the pool was very nice
and the restaurants had a fair choice. We found the food to be quite
pricey, and the cost of the accomodation to be expensive too but all in
all if you want to see Ayers rock this is a good choice.

The best thing about Desert Gardens Hotel was:"Swimming Pool

"Very poor value in a great location
" |
|
"1. Couldn't check in until late afternoon - unacceptable after a long
hot journey.
2. This was the most expensive of all hotels we booked over a 3 week tour of Australia and New Zealand and provided the worst service by far.
3. Specifically, the breakfast buffet following our visit to Uluru at sunrise was inadequate - reception poor, lack of co-ordination of service through poor management (only 2 staff visibly on duty to serve a large number of guests), inadequate provision of food, and all for the cost of 25 dollars a head - which was shocking. ( We received immaculate service in a 4 star hotel in New Zealand for 75 NZ dollars for room and breakfast. )
4. Staff appeared demoralised and disaffected - didn't ask how our stay had been. Unsurprising as there seemed to be little evidence of management. There were complaints being made by other guests as we checked in.
5. Room was barely adequate for the cost.
6. We resented the feeling we had that this was a monopoly of all hotel provision in the area by one company which could have led to lack of care for guests.
"
The best thing about Desert Gardens Hotel was:"Location
"
The worst thing about Desert Gardens Hotel was: "Service and price - which soured our view of what is one of Australia's
greatest assets in Uluru.
