Salzburgs only Grand Hotel, built in the architectural style of the turn of the century, is situated in a central location on the shores of the Salzach river and offers an impressive view of the Old Town. At only a few minutes walking distance from the Festival Halls the completely renovated Hotel offers state-of-the-art comfort paired with tradition. The demolition of a gate was the basis for a "great" Hotel of the monarchy. At the site of the former guards garden next to the old Lederertor in Salzburg on the sandy banks of the Salzach the municipal government gained new land by regulating the river.
On part of it, as close of possible to the dreamy historical city, next to Staatsbrücke, between 1863 and 1866 the architect Carl Freiherr von Schwarz built an impressive Hotel: the "Österreichischer Hof" which until today unifies all the advantages of a great house: luxurious facilities, tradition, and atmosphere as well as a magnificent view of the fortress, the spires and the gardens of the Festival city, separated by the Salzach gliding along the Hotel in complete silence. The Hotel first saw the light of day ten years before Hotel Sacher Wien. The "birth" of the Salzburg Sacher, the "Östereichischer Hof" or "Hôtel dAutriche" was announced by its owner and hotelier Karl Irresberger in Salzburger Zeitung on 4th June 1866 where he also praised the following advantages, "The Hotel has a large number of guest rooms provided with everything needed for by state-of-the-art comfort."

Many of the 118 rooms and suites have been renovated and given a new design in the course of the past few years. The rooms are furnished in a highly personal and individual fashion and state-of-the-art equipment is a standard feature. Each room and suite has been decorated personally by Ms Elisabeth Gürtler, the Managing Director, with great love of detail. The view of the silhouette of the Old Town and the Fortress of Hohensalzburg is truly unique. The rooms feature antiquities and precious original paintings, marble bathrooms and the interior has been adapted to the historical style.
Enjoy the unmistakable atmosphere of our "Zirbelzimmer" gourmet restaurant. For lovers of grill dishes we recommend our Salzachgrill. Cafè Sacher conveys typical Viennese coffee-house tradition.
