Description of the Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel Nyc

Unveiled in 1961 in front of a crowd that included Judy Garland and Noel Coward, then called The Summit the hotel was the talk of the town for its ideal midtown location and mid-century modern look.

Designed by famed architect Morris Lapidus, the buildings curving façade coated in sea foam-colored brick was an extreme contrast to the somber hues and straight lines of the surrounding skyscrapers.

During the next two decades, the bright colors were traded in for muted tones and the name was changed to Loews New York Hotel. But one thing remained the same: The hotels popularity with people seeking a prime Manhattan location as a base for their city travels.

Today, the original mid century modernist glory of the hotel has been restored and refined with 21st century amenities.
