"New York is an amazing and beautiful city, we were lucky to see empire state day and night, boat cruise down hudson, see legally blonde on broadway, see the knicks play (and win!) We spent a day wandering around central park and ice skating on wollman rink, and visiting the zoo. We did everything we wanted to do. My advice when you wake up get up the city is beautifully quiet early in the morning, sleep can wait til the plane home! "

"If you go to New York and you want to do the sights you should get up early. The queues for the Statue of Liberty at 10am are 3 hours plus. But if you go at 8am you will wait 10 mins and then you can fit in loads of sights. If you want to go up the sol you will need to book that 48 hours in advance. The Empire State Building is the same go early or late it is open until midnight I think and again the queues will be much shorter. The helicopter ride is amazing from Pier 6 and not too much £30- 80 but you need to ring to check availability. The Broadway shows are amazing Lion King especially. Get a ticket for the bus tours and you can travel to anywhere and learn about the city too! Have a great trip! "

"Buy a Metro card for travel. The weekly ticket is excellent value. Taxis are not to overlooked as they are so cheap! The 'grid' system of New York makes getting around so simple. Invest in a food guide and try some of the lesser known restaurants - all are such good value for money. A must is the buffet at the revolving restaurant on the 48th floor of the Marriott Marquis - try dusk when all the lights of the city are coming on! Brilliant! "

"Once you have done the sights, spend some time wandering round Soho and if you don't fall asleep after walking all day, watch some music and stand up comedy in the village in the evening. Shopping: Century 21 is recommended everywhere, its like a massive tk max so hit and miss but my girlfriend got a bargain handbag. Oh yeah and the guide books said Harlem was regenerated and safe now but I didn't really feel that safe, as a tourist you kind of stand out abit! Mind you I had some expensive things I had bought earlier in my bag so could have been a little paranoid. "

"Do the tourist bit but then head South to Greenwich and Chelsea Market, and take the f train to 7th Avenue Parkslope and Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Also seek out the Little Church on the Corner near the Flatiron on 1e 29th st - a copper roofed haven nicknamed after a friend of an actor seeking to bury his friend in one of the larger churches but was told 'we don't bury actors here 'Try the little church around the corner'. It has since had strong connections to the theatre world, there is a stained glass of Hamlet and P.G Wodehouse married there. A quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle. "

"Use the Gray Line tour bus to get around rather than cabs or the subway. There are a few ticket options that allow hop-on hop-off, and the bus stops at most tourist attractions. We would also recommend the Night Tour for a lovely night time view of the Manhattan skyline. Top of the Rock is well worth a visit - go once at night and once during the day if you can. We would also recommend Au Bon Pain for breakfast (you'll see them all over Midtown), and the Azure deli and Cafe Metro for lunch/snack foods - great value and choice. "

"The view from the "Top of the Rock" (Rockefeller) was great, and I would highly recommended that. Zabars on 80th & Broadway is a great lunch spot if you're over near Central Park West. One thing we didn't realise was a lot of Broadway shows don't run on Mondays. "Tkts" located at Broadway and 45th is an excellent (but busy) place to get discounted on the day of the performance tickets. "

"Spirit City Cruises do fab evening dinner cabaret sailings for 3 hours around the island and the statue. Must do a show on Broadway. Times Square at night is awesome. If you shop at Macy's take your passport to the visitor centre on floor 1 and 1/2 to get an 11% discount card. Helicopter flight is a must (Liberty Helicopters) but make sure you do at least the 10 minute flight or it will be over before you've begun. Metro subway passes are $24 for a week but wish I hadn't bothered as we walked everywhere most of the time as the Eastgate Tower is such a good location. If doing the Empire State get the Skyride Combo ticket and do the Skyride first - find a man in a yellow jacket outside and he takes you straight in avoiding the main queue. After the brilliant skyride you can join the observatory queue further up! Woodbury Common is an excellent discounted designer outlet place an hour bus ride away - we were there 9 hours and only managed to cover a third of it. Tickets you can get at the Port Authority Bus Terminal for $38. ThHe savings on your shopping will more than cover this. Take a holdall or small case - on wheels - to carry your shopping - this is commonplace and very wise. You get a coupon book with your bus ticket but better to join their vip club online before you go to print off more discount coupons which are better than the coupon book. Remember tax is added onto ticket prices. "

Take advantage of the audio hand set tour at the top of the Empire State and get there early morning to avoid the queues. Ellis Island well worth seeing; and make use of the tour guide service - our's was hilarious. Retrospectively we were told more about the small church alongside Ground Zero - perhaps something more people would like to know more about in the context of the firemen on 9 September 2001. "
