Description of the Regina Hotel

The Hotel Regina is the main house of the Kremslehner Hotel Group of which also the Hotel Royal and the Garben Hotel are part. It was built in the years 1876-1877 according to the plans of the architect Emil Ritter von Forster and Theodor Reuter under the inspection of the principal Johann Angerer in the style of Viennese historism. It represents an important palace in the ensemble of buildings surrounding the Votiv Church on the grounds of the former Glacis. The building is mentioned under the name of Angererpalais in all important books about the construction of the Viennese Ringstrabe.

Before the Hotel Regina, the Alt-Pilsenetzer beer hall was located in the building. A famous restaurant throughout the city in which Georg Kremslehner had started as a waiter and eventually, in 1896, together with his wife Christine, who he had first met in this restaurant, became tenant of the building. From that moment on, the Hotel Regina has permanently been in the possession of the family Kremslehner.

In 1907, Georg Kremslehner was granted the hotel concession and adapted the floors of the house one after another for hotel purposes. Step by step the building was transformed into a metropolitan hotel with the beer-hall being part of it until the twenties. In 1927, the family Kremslehner obtained the Graben Hotel and in 1931 the Hotel Royal- these three hotels building the Kremslehner Hotel group up to the present day.

After the death of Georg Kremslehner in 1930, his youngest son Rudolf took over the direction of the Kremslehner Hotels. After the end of World War II, during which the hotel was temporarily used as a military hospital and was occupied by the Americans, the house was renovated from scratch, the adjoining house was bought and the hotel thus enlarged.

Since the year 1976, Dr. Peter Kremslehner, an enthused opera-fan and personal friend of many stars of the opera like Agnes Baltsa, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, has taken over the direction of all three hotels.

Today, the hotel comprises 127 rooms, equipped with Art Nouveau or style furniture. All rooms have bathroom or shower, WC, direct dial telephone, mini-bar, cable TV, radio, hairdryer, safe and ISDN-Internet access. All public areas are equipped with style furniture and antiques, in order to grant the guest elegant hotel tradition and the atmosphere of the last century, together with the comfort of modern times.

Furthermore, the hotel has a business center where guests can check their emails or surf the Internet. All public areas are equipped with W-LAN.

In summer the guests can have a rest in the shady garden under the arcades of the hotel. The hotel has a coach parking zone, public underground parking and a metro station are close by.

In the year 2001, the Restaurant Roth was newly opened in the Hotel Regina which provides modern flair in traditional rooms. The kitchen offers Viennese and Austrian specialties along with seasonal dishes. The comfortable bar invites the guests to have a cocktail, try the best Austrian wines by the glass or drink one of the several draft beers.
