Wake Up in a City That Never Sleeps!

New York, New York so good they named it twice! Stunning New York is the most famous city in the world, whether it's the fantastic nightlife, the galleries and museums or the sensational shopping, there's lots to pack into your visit. Take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty or Statten Island to enjoy views of the Manhattan skyline. Enjoy a traditional New York hot dog or join the New Yorkers as they tuck into brunch in Greenwich village.
Try roller-blading or ice-skating in Central Park or treat yourself to a Broadway show. Wander through the boutiques of SoHo or just relax in the laid back cafes of Chelsea. Of course no visit to New York would be complete without a trip to the top of the Empire State building.

Our customer's tips and city guides for New York:

"If you go to New York and you want to do the sights you should get up early. The queues for the Statue of Liberty at 10am are 3 hours plus. But if you go at 8am you will wait 10mins and then you can fit in loads of sights. If you want to go up the sol you will need to book that 48 hours in advance. The Empire State Building is the same go early or late it is open until midnight I think and again the queues will be much shorter. The helicopter ride is amazing from Pier 6 and not too much £30- 80 but you need to ring to check availability. The Broadway shows are amazing Lion King especially. Get a ticket for the bus tours and you can travel to anywhere and learn about the city too! Have a great trip! "
Miss F Crombie of Manchester (Young couple) stayed: Ameritania Hotel, Mar 2008

"Get up early in a morning to hit New York... Woodbury Common well worth a visit for shoppers. "
Mrs L Travis of Sale (Family with teenage children) stayed: The Pod Hotel, Nov 2007

" Just enjoy your self "
Mr J Lister of Doncaster (Mature couple) stayed: Tudor Hotel 42nd Street, Jan 2008

Mr D Ramsay of Glenrothes (Solo leisure) stayed: Ymca Vanderbilt Hotel, Dec 2007

"Visit in December, the city is just alive with those extra special touches of festive magic. "
Mr A Mayers of Poulton-Le-Fylde (Family with teenage children) stayed: Beekman Tower Hotel, Dec 2007

Miss V Wilmott of London (Mature adult friends) stayed: Newark Airport Marriott Hotel, Dec 2007

"Get a metrocard and make the most of seeing this amazing city, my 6th time and still haven't seen everything! Use the Subway and buses so you don't miss the sights if your less mobile "
Mr A Beaumont of St Helens (Young adult friends) stayed: Pennsylvania Hotel, Oct 2007

"The Sohotel may appear to be somewhat ill located hard by the Bowery but we found this to be no fair indicator of its quality. It was quite acceptable. "
Mr J Wilks of St Leonards On Sea (Mature couple) stayed: Sohotel, Nov 2007

"If you want to be in the heart of Manhattan stay here.... "
Mrs J Saini of Hayes (Solo leisure) stayed: Affinia Manhattan Hotel, Oct 2007

Mrs S Skinner of Beaworthy (Mature adult friends) stayed: Deauville Hotel, Oct 2007

"Perfect for travellers on a budget. The area is in walking distance to Broadway, 5th, 6th Avenue etc. I would definitely recommend staying here. The bathrooms were cleaned every morning. "
Miss A Christie of London (Mature adult friends) stayed: Ymca West Side Hotel, Oct 2007

"Avoid the taxis - get walking, you'll see much more. The un building (about 10 minutes walk from the hotel) is a worthwhile visit. Also get a City Pass, this will get you into 6 top venues such as Empire State Building, Metropolian Museum etc., at half price - and avoid the queues for tickets! "
Mrs S Gyles of Newmarket (Mature couple) stayed: The Pod Hotel, Oct 2007

"Use the Gray Line tour bus to get around rather than cabs or the subway. There are a few ticket options that allow hop-on hop-off, and the bus stops at most tourist attractions. We would also recommend the Night Tour for a lovely night time view of the Manhattan skyline. Top of the Rock is well worth a visit - go once at night and once during the day if you can. We would also recommend Au Bon Pain for breakfast (you'll see them all over Midtown), and the Azure deli and Cafe Metro for lunch/snack foods - great value and choice. "
Miss S Brodie of Paisley (Young couple) stayed: Affinia 50 Hotel, Oct 2007

"Take the Statten Island ferry from Battery Park, i'ts free and passes by reasonably close to the Statue of Liberty for you to take pictures, Or alternatively you can wait in the very long line and pay for the ferry over to Liberty Island, where you will still not be able to go inside the Statue, got to be a waste of time & dollars surely?? "
Mr S Mettam Fox of Sheffield (Solo leisure) stayed: The Pod Hotel, Oct 2007

"If you want value for money and good location in an expensive city then choose the ymca Vanderbilt "
Mr P Pennell of Crawley (Young adult friends) stayed: Ymca Vanderbilt Hotel, Oct 2007

"Deffinately do the 48 hr loop tours to get around the city. And go up one of the empire state and rockefeller by day and one by night. See a show, go to liberty island and take the time to have a look around ellis island too. "
Miss L Butler of Sittingbourne (Young adult friends) stayed: Pennsylvania Hotel, Sep 2007

"Don't pay 30 dollars to go to the floor 101 in the Empire State, stay in the 86 that you have exactly the same views! The 101 is closed but the 86 is a hugh balcony, so much better! "
Mr E Buhler Pino of Madrid (Young couple) stayed: Latham Hotel, Sep 2007

"You are not in ny to sit in the hotel room, so dont worry about the size. As long a it is clean. Get out and see one of the best cities in the world. Use the subway, walk, eat, and drink, and take it all in! "
Mr K Hughes of Perth (Solo leisure) stayed: The Pod Hotel, Sep 2007

"If you want to stay at a quiet part of Manhattan then this hotel is great for you and is right across from central park. However, the next time we go we will be looking stay midtown, downtown as this is where all the action happens. "
Miss C Bell of Whitburn (Young couple) stayed: Astor On The Park Hotel, Sep 2007

"Would recommend if you need a goods night sleep. It was small, extremely friendly and very help. Only downside was the lift - it was manually operated and occasions took several minutes to arrive & even once didn't turn up. "
Ms H Croft of Christchurch (Young adult friends) stayed: Deauville Hotel, Sep 2007

"Stay at the Ameritania Hotel for easy access to broadway, times square and shopping. Buy comfortable shoes for all the walking! "

"Buy a week metro card - only $24 dollars. "
Ms D Wilson of Norwich (Solo leisure) stayed: Empire Hotel, Aug 2007

"Invest in a good 'New York' map, that shows the metro lines and subways. Decide which attractions you want to see and don't try to do everything. Use the Super Shuttle for transport from and to the airports. Be aware that there is a limit to how much cash you can withdraw from ATMs in a 24hr period. Enjoy the city it's amazing! "
Mrs A Johnston of Barrow -In-Furness (Family with teenage children) stayed: Ameritania Hotel, Aug 2007

"Insted of walking every where early on in your hliday get cabs or the sub cause our legs were killing us by the end of the second day there due to all the walking we did . so save your legs an ge a cab they are cheap an easy to get or get the sub way its even cheaper faster and safe "
Ms V Bishop of Stoke On Trent (Young couple) stayed: Ymca Vanderbilt Hotel, Aug 2007

"The view from the "Top of the Rock" (Rockefeller) was great, and I would highly recommended that. Zabars on 80th & Broadway is a great lunch spot if you're over near Central Park West. One thing we didn't realise was a lot of Broadway shows don't run on Mondays. "Tkts" located at Broadway and 45th is an excellent (but busy) place to get discounted on the day of the performance tickets. "
Mr C Squires of Newcastle Upon Tyne (Young adult friends) stayed: The Pod Hotel, Aug 2007

"Go elsewhere if there are 3 or more in a suite, unless you like sleeping on the floor "

Mr T Powney of Kendal (Family with young children) stayed: Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Aug 2007

Mr D Lancini of West Wickham (Young adult friends) stayed: Ameritania Hotel, Aug 2007

"If you are going to the top of Empire State Building, book your ticket online and print it off to avoid queues. And remember to get there first thing in the morning (to avoid long security check queues). "
Miss A Sim of London (Solo leisure) stayed: Travel Inn Hotel, Jun 2007

"If you are staying for 4 nights, plan your itenary before you leave home. See the city by tour on your first day, so get your bearings. Staten Island Ferry gives you an excellent view of Statue of Liberty. Few hidden trasures: Century 21 and Old Navy for shopping South St Seaport for shops, bars, restaurants and trips on the rivers. Macy's cellar bar and restaurant for a break from shooping in Macys "
Mr W Rees of Crewe (Mature couple) stayed: Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan Hotel, Jun 2007

"Shop till you drop some excellent bargins to be had "
Mrs K Richardson of Tamworth (Mature couple) stayed: Ramada New Yorker Hotel, May 2007

"Do not travel by subway. Buses are easy cheap, regular and you get to view the most fantastic place in the world each time you travel, why waste this oportunity by going underground. "
Miss E Beswick of Barton Upon Humber (Solo leisure) stayed: West Side Hotel Ny, May 2007

"Be prepared for the cold if visiting late or early in the year. We were but we saw a few people who were caught out and had to buy extra warm clothing. "

"Try the sightseeing buses to get your bearings and for excellent insider information on the city. "
Mr A Younghusband of Bourne (Solo leisure) stayed: Beekman Tower Hotel, May 2007

"New York seems reasonably safe to me subject to usual sensible precautions. Decent hotels are expensive but its not worth skimping on this unless you will not be spending much time in the hotel. Its possible to have a great time in NY without spending much money ( except for hotel ! ) Stage Door deli just round corner from hotel serves a good NY breakfast for just a few $. "
Mr M Reading of Lowestoft (Solo leisure) stayed: Millennium Hilton Hotel, Apr 2007

"Book the double superior room if you are going to stay here. I'd say the one bed rooms are tiny and claustraphobic. "
Miss C Coffey of Tunbridge Wells (Young adult friends) stayed: Paramount Hotel, May 2007

"We felt very safe in New York and would recommend it to anyone. Wear comfortable shoes as to feel like a native get out and walk and there is a lot to see on foot. We would recommend the bus tours they are great value for money and very informative on the history of what your seeing. "

Mrs S Crocker of Dunmow (Family with teenage children) stayed: Holiday Inn Midtown-57 St Hotel, Mar 2007

"Trolley red bus hop on off bus is exellent way to get round city and see sights.also revolving restaurant at top of marriot hotel worth a visit "
Mrs S Murphy of Merseyside (Mature adult friends) stayed: Milford Plaza Hotel, Mar 2007

"Spirit City Cruises do fab evening dinner cabaret sailings for 3 hours around the island and the statue. Must do a show on Broadway. Times Square at night is awesome. If you shop at Macy's take your passport to the visitor centre on floor 1 and 1/2 to get an 11% discount card. Helicopter flight is a must (Liberty Helicopters) but make sure you do at least the 10 minute flight or it will be over before you've begun. Metro subway passes are $24 for a week but wish I hadn't bothered as we walked everywhere most of the time as the Eastgate Tower is such a good location. If doing the Empire State get the Skyride Combo ticket and do the Skyride first - find a man in a yellow jacket outside and he takes you straight in avoiding the main queue. After the brilliant skyride you can join the observatory queue further up! Woodbury Common is an excellent discounted designer outlet place an hour bus ride away - we were there 9 hours and only managed to cover a third of it. Tickets you can get at the Port Authority Bus Terminal for $38. ThHe savings on your shopping will more than cover this. Take a holdall or small case - on wheels - to carry your shopping - this is commonplace and very wise. You get a coupon book with your bus ticket but better to join their vip club online before you go to print off more discount coupons which are better than the coupon book. Remember tax is added onto ticket prices. "
Miss R Lee of Cheltenham (Young couple) stayed: Eastgate Tower Hotel, Mar 2007

"Fabulous city, enjoy the night life without any of the problems typical of a uk city. "
Dr D Rhodes of Kingston-Upon-Thames (Young adult friends) stayed: Bedford Hotel, Mar 2007

"The three day city bus pass is excellent value and a trip to Woodbury common the factory outlet village is worth a viist. "
Ms J Yems of Baldry Gds (Mature adult friends) stayed: Central Park Apartments Hotel, Mar 2007

"Take lots of cash, everybody needs tipping! "
Miss H Fay of Glasgow (Solo leisure) stayed: Sohotel, Mar 2007

"Use the subway or walk to get around. The roads are stand still alot of the time. Get used to the horn honking New Yorkers seem to love to do this. "
Miss S Brodie of Southport (Mature couple) stayed: Bentley Hotel, Mar 2007

"Walk where you can so as to see more. Must have the pancake, maple syrup and grilled banana for breakfast! Take advantage of the audio hand set tour at the top of the Empire State and get there early morning to avoid the queues. Ellis Island well worth seeing; and make use of the tour guide service - our's was hilarious. Retrospectively we were told more about the small church alongside Ground Zero - perhaps something more people would like to know more about in the context of the firemen on 9 September 2001. "
Mr M Woolley of Chesterfield (Mature couple) stayed: Thirty Thirty Hotel, Mar 2007

"Talk to the actual New Yorkers - they are nothing like their reputation portrays them. They are actually warm and friendly, even the cab drivers are chatty if you speak to them first - football (soccer) is a good ice- breaker! All the locals will tell you the best places to go and even invite you to join them. "
Mr G Penchion of London (Mature couple) stayed: Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Mar 2007

"Dont go to the Hudson for there fantastic Food & Beverage Service - you will be left cold.. "

Mr A Wallis of Market Harborough (Young couple) stayed: Hotel Wales, Dec 2006

"This was a 50th Birthday present from my husband and our first trip to the usa. Bring comfortable footwear with you, there's so much to do and see in New York, don't forget your camera and camcorder. Its everything you'll have ever heard about and so much more. Visiting all the familiar places you've seen on tv and in films. If its a short visit do an all day excursion to see all the main places, its well worth it. Everyone was helpful and friendly- they love an English accent! More importantly once you've been you'll definately want to return. After 9/11 people were unsure about visiting the usa, but not anymore, New York is a very vibrant and happy place to spend your holiday, you'll go home tired but very happy! We can't wait to return! "
Mrs L Turvey of Wellingborough (Mature couple) stayed: Hotel Deauville, Nov 2006
