The hotel is set in 5 acres of mature trees and gardens meticulously maintained by our Garden Supervisor, Tony Bourke, and his staff. Read Tony`s current Garden Report.
There are quite distinctive themes to the different gardens. The Cottage Courtyard features a more informal cottage garden which includes rhododendrons, azaleas, lavender and perennials.
The Central Courtyard features a formal rose garden which holds more than 70 different varieties of standard and bush roses.
A new addition is the Alpine Garden dedicated to New Zealand native flora.
The gardens also have a very practical use with the harvest from the large old pear tree being made into homemade chutney for use in the restaurants and as gifts for guests. The chef also oversees the large Herb Garden where most of the herbs used in the hotel restaurants are grown.
