"In its heyday this must have been a superb hotel. Since the 1920's peoples expectations of a 5 star hotel have moved on and it I would rate it as a comfortable 4 star business hotel. The fact that it took us 30 minutes queueing before we could check in, all the rooms around us were being refurbished with drills and hammering starting at 7:45 daily and it took 3 hours for room service to respond to our call does not make it consistent with a 5 star hotel. We complained and they did make a great effort to relocate us in the hotel, 1st to a smoking room, then to one without a bed for the children. Eventually they moved us to a room in the Waldorf Towers which although part of the same building is worlds apart. Now this is a true 5 star hotel. If you are planning to stay 5 star in New York I would go for the 4 seasons and soak up the art deco ambience of the Waldorf by just popping in for a drink! "
The best thing about Waldorf Astoria was:"Being moved to the Waldorf Towers Hotel "
The worst thing about Waldorf Astoria was: "No longer exclusive "

"This short break was booked as a surprise birthday present. The location could not have been better and the staff were warm, welcoming and helpful. The weather was awful, absolutely freezing but this did nothing to spoil our enjoyment of the city and the hotel. The grand reception was a joy to pass through, the smell of the beautiful floral display was a joy and so many staff with such a friendly manner made our stay wonderful. "
The best thing about Waldorf Astoria was:"Attention to detail "
The worst thing about Waldorf Astoria was: "Nothing "

"One of the most glamourous hotel names in the world, in an enviable location on Park Avenue - just a few minutes walk from Grand Central Station and the shops on Fifth Avenue. The lobby is one of the sights of the city, with its famous clock and opulent (but not oppressive) decor. R The standard rooms are perfectly adequately sized (hard to come by in nyc) with fabulous bathrooms. For the cost, by comparison with what you would pay for a tourist class hotel, the Waldorf is very reasonable. We tried two of the onsite restaurants - Oscars is great for a bistro-type meal, the Bull and Bear is where you go for your wallet-busting blowout. The bar is pleasantly dark and cosy."
The best thing about Waldorf Astoria was:"The public areas - the lobby, restaurants etc"
The worst thing about Waldorf Astoria was: "Nothing"
